DIY vs Specialist Work: Plan the Right Split
The useful question is not “Can I do this myself?” but “Which work should I do myself, which work should a specialist do, and how will the interfaces be managed?”
Good DIY candidates
Owner work can make sense where risk is low, quality can be inspected, tools and time are available, and the task does not interfere with regulated or specialist systems.
Specialist territory
Electrical, gas, structural, certain plumbing, safety-critical and legally regulated work may require qualified professionals. Local rules and project conditions must be checked.
The hidden interface problem
Even simple DIY work can create problems when it blocks access, changes dimensions, damages waterproofing or forces a later trade to redo work. Sequence and handover conditions matter.
